Adam's Story
Adam is a little short on confidence. He’s shy, he’s a foster kid, and he’s got a speech impediment that he’s self conscious about. Adam is a seven year old with energy to spare. But early childhood trauma has made it hard for him to deal with his emotions calmly. His foster mom knew that what he needed was a good place to use his abundant energy. One day he decided he wanted to play football, and to his foster mom Amy, that seemed like just the right thing for him. Unfortunately the fees were too much for her, so she turned to Treehouse’s Little Wishes program. Amy helped Adam make a Little Wish at Treehouse and now big things are happening.
After just two days of practice Adam’s coach was impressed with his ability to play football and praised him. After practice he comes off the field with a big smile on his face and he feels excited to have “discovered something I’m good at.” His foster mom says “This experience is really helping to boost his confidence – which is something Adam really needed!”
At his last scrimmage he scored two touchdowns and made one interception. Not bad for a kid who, not long ago, really didn’t want to talk much and who mostly stayed on the sidelines. Well, no more. He’s building confidence in himself with the help of a great coach. And this will continue to lead to his ability to tackle situations that are difficult for him off the field.
